Privacy Policy for Niyyah

Niyyah ("we," "our," or "us") provides a Muslim prayer companion application ("App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a secure, ethical, and ad-free experience. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

1. Information We Access and Collect

a. Location Information

Our App requires access to your device's approximate or precise location (only while the App is in use) to calculate accurate prayer times (Adhan) and determine the Qibla direction.

Privacy Note: Your location data is processed locally on your device and is not stored on or transmitted to our servers. It may be cached on your device’s local storage to ensure offline functionality. We do not track your location in the background.

b. Usage and Device Data (Analytics & Crash Reporting)

To improve the App's performance and fix bugs, we may collect limited, anonymous usage data and crash reports through the following third-party services:

  • Crash Reporting: If the App crashes, anonymous crash logs (such as device model, OS version, and error traces) may be sent via Sentry to help us identify and resolve issues.
  • Analytics: We may collect basic, anonymized events (e.g., feature usage, screen views) via Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used and prioritize improvements. No personally identifiable information (PII) is intentionally collected.

c. Purchase Information

If you choose to purchase a premium subscription or make a donation (tip), the transaction is processed securely through Google Play or the Apple App Store and managed via RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your payment details (such as credit card numbers). We only receive purchase status information and a secure identifier to enable premium features within the App.

d. Local User Data (Prayer Tracking, Dhikr, Settings)

Data related to your prayer tracking (streaks, logs), dhikr counters (Tasbih), Qibla calibration, home screen widget data, and App settings (such as notification preferences, calculation methods, and themes) is stored entirely on your device's local storage. This data is not transmitted to our servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App's core features (prayer times, Qibla compass, notifications).
  • Process and manage subscriptions and in-app purchases.
  • Monitor App stability, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide customer support.
  • Understand aggregated and anonymized usage patterns to improve the App's design, content, and functionality.

We process data only as necessary to provide the App’s core functionality and based on our legitimate interests in maintaining and improving the App, as well as fulfilling contractual obligations related to in-app purchases.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following secure third-party service providers to help operate the App:

  • RevenueCat: Manages subscriptions and in-app purchases.
  • Sentry: Collects anonymous crash reports for debugging and stability monitoring.
  • Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymized usage analytics to improve the App experience.
  • Google Play Services / Apple App Store: Required for app distribution, billing, and core integrations.

These third-party providers may process data in accordance with their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies for more information. Some of these services may process data on servers located outside your country.

We do not use any third-party advertising SDKs. Niyyah is 100% ad-free.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Data is only shared with essential third-party service providers strictly for the purpose of operating the App and in compliance with applicable laws and platform policies.

6. Data Security

The security of your data is important to us. Since most of your data (such as location, prayer logs, and tasbih progress) is stored locally on your device, it is protected by your device’s built-in security mechanisms.

For data handled by third-party services (such as purchase validation), we rely on industry-standard security measures (e.g., encryption and HTTPS). However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

7. User Rights and Data Deletion

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection laws (such as GDPR or KVKK), including the right to access, correct, or delete your data, or object to certain processing activities.

Since your personal app data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing the App's data from your device settings.

8. Children’s Privacy

Niyyah is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe that a child has provided personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be indicated by revising the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
